My Favorite Speech-to-Text Apps as of December 2024
AI transcription apps are now very accurate. I use them to get ideas out of my head and capture information because it’s easier for me to talk than to write. These are my favorites:
macOS
MacWhisper
MacWhisper runs OpenAI Whisper and other models directly on your Mac, so you can transcribe locally instead of uploading to the cloud.
It integrates with ChatGPT/Claude and other AI providers to transcribe audio and summarize it.
My favorite uses are:
-
Transcribing coaching sessions and Zoom calls.
-
Transcribing YouTube videos.
-
Downloading YouTube playlists and transcribing all videos to find specific information.
-
Transcribing podcast episodes and asking AI to extract specific information.
Whispr Flow
I use Flow to dictate short messages and emails. It’s accurate and fast. Press the shortcut to start recording and release it to insert the text.
iOS
Vienna Scribe
I use Scribe to dictate and transcribe voice memos on my phone.
Voicepal
Voicepal is a writing buddy rather than a pure transcription tool.
You dictate your idea, then it asks follow-up questions that you can dictate the answers to, and compiles everything into a document. It’s useful for getting content ideas out of your head and creating first drafts.
