About
The Cliff Notes of my life.
I was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, lived there for 6 years, then moved to Germany with my parents. I went to first grade in Germany without speaking a word of German. It was tough, but it taught me how to deal with big challenges and uncertainty.
So I learnt German and then I got really into computers. I started teaching myself programming languages, while waiting for the dial-up modem to connect to the internet. I miss that sound. I messed around with C, C++, C#, Assembler (bad idea), Python, and recently went over to php, ruby and JavaScript.
In 2005, at the age of 15, I wanted to experience first hand what it feels like to drive on the other side of the road, so I left Germany for … Australia. I know, England would have been closer, but they don’t have Kangaroos there.
After about three months there and the realization that I can’t return to the forced mediocricity of the public school system in Germany, I went to a Swiss boarding school, where I finished the last two years of high school, got my International Baccalaureate Diploma, went skiing every day in the winter, and had the most awesome time of my life. Seriously.
Now, I’m studying Finance and International Business at GWU in Washington DC and play software developer. Some call it a peculiar combination, but it works pretty well.
I want to make products and draw my own map, because I love uncertainty and the opportunities that it brings. There is more to it that this, and I’ll happily tell you in person.
