I just got Seth Godin’s new book “Linchpin”.
Seth offered a free copy three weeks before the official release to the first 3,000 people who donated to the Acumen Fund. I jumped at the opportunity. The donation was handled by PayPal, and it was made explicit that the address submitted by PayPal with the donation was the shipping address for the book. I messed it up, and submitted the wrong address without realizing it.
To those who donated, Linchpin was shipped on January 4th. On January 26th, I realized that I should have it by now, checked my PayPal account and noticed the error. I sent Seth an email, explained the problem, said it wasn’t his fault, and that I’d appreciate it if they could get me a copy even though I messed up the address.
They said “we’ll try”, I said “that’s all I can ask for” and now, only 2 days later, I got Linchpin via FedEx. That’s the amazing thing. It made me really happy. Now, 20 minutes later, I am still trying to understand how? Maybe because it exceeded my expectations. I thought I’d take a week. And for that moment of happiness, and for the chance to give money to a good cause and receive the book in return, I am truly thankful. This made my day.
